Education and Outreach
Radiation Biology
Understanding the impact of radiation here on Earth is just one aspect of radiation biology. Identifying and mitigating the effects of radiation on travelers to the Moon, Mars, and beyond is a critical goal of NASA scientists. This website will assist high school biology teachers in introducing radiation biology & genetics learning to grades 9-12.
In addition, the Space Biosciences Division has been approved by Marshall Space Flight Center to participate in finalizing and distributing Radiation Biology Activities for middle schools. This approval provides funding to the division for incorporating changes into the completed activities to be posted on the NASA Education Portal. It also provides funding for presenting the subject matter at the NASA ARC Explorers Schools Workshop and the Space Weather & Human Space Flight Workshop to be held this September 14-15 at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
Flies in Space
This site is designed to provide 5th-8th grade students with information about NASA's life sciences research, focusing on the model specimen Drosophila melanogaster, or the common fruit fly. This site is aligned with national life science standards.
