Co-sponsored by NASA Women's Influence Network and Girl Scouts of Northern California. An all day hands-on workshop for girls ages 4 through high school to experience science and technology careers.

Wendy Holforty Mentors Ames CookieBots High School Team in SPHERES "Zero Robotics" Competition

Wendy Holforty, a member of the Flight Systems Implementation Branch and inaugural mentor of the Space Cookies Robotics Team (an all-girls robotics team sponsored by Ames), has brought together seven girls from the Space Cookies and five boys from the Gunn High School Robotics Team to collaborate as the CookieBots, a high school team competing in the NASA and MIT sponsored Zero Robotics Competition.

Science and Technology Demos for the Innovation Learning Network (ILN)

Science and Technology Demos for ILN: NASA (Ames working with JSC) was invited to participate in the Kaiser Innovation Learning Network (ILN) 3 day design challenge to re-imagine the future of healthcare and the connected care team.  Science and Technology labs hosted a visit to Ames for 10 members of the ILN group on Oct 4th.  Drs. David Loftus and Greg Dorais joined the design challengeon Oct 5-6 at Kaiser in Oakland, CA.

Support scientists Dr. Kevin Sato and Paula Dumars from the STS-135 payloads teams fielded questions about space biology from 50 interested high school students from Wendover, NV on Oct 5. Event was initiated by the teacher who is promoting science, engineering and a college education track for her students.

Spiders and Flies in Space on STS-135

ISS Educational Experiment Participation: Dr. Sharmila Bhattacharya is collaborating with Bioserve Space Technologies to support a K-12 educational flight experiment for the CSI mission currently underway on ISS. Bhattacharya and her team have worked with Bioserve on designing hardware, developing imaging requirements and selecting fly lines for the spider and fruit fly habitat.

This site is designed to provide 5th-8th grade students with information about NASA's life sciences research, focusing on the model specimen Drosophila melanogaster, or the common fruit fly. This site is aligned with national life science standards.
